Dead_Sexy_COVER_UPDATE-251x367Romance author Simone Kent thinks she might just have found the most perfect guy in all of New York City – in bed and out.

But Drake Parrish is about as far from perfect as any man can get. Eight years ago, he was cursed by an evil Voodoo priestess to live part of his life as a zombie. Since then, he has lived like a recluse on New York’s Upper East Side, afraid to go out for fear he’ll suddenly turn into one of the walking dead.

The sex is the hottest either of them has ever experienced and Simone discovers just how naughty she can be with Drake, while he finds himself feeling things for Simone he hasn’t felt in a very long time. When the Voodoo priestess learns of their relationship, however, she comes after him again. She’s determined he won’t have a future with Simone, even if that means killing  both him and the woman he loves.

  1. If you could have dinner with one of your hero’s (prior to them finding their happy ever after), who would it be and why? :)

    • Wow, that’s a toughie because I love all my heroes! So, I’m going to try to narrow it down to the top three. LOL! Drake, the hero of DEAD SEXY, would have to be one of them. And this is going to sound crazy, but I’d want to have dinner with him after he was cursed by the evil Voodoo priestess and turned into a zombie. You’ll have to read the book to find out why I say that, but once you do, you’ll understand!

The other two would be the heroes from the first two books in my military/paranormal series coming from Sourcebooks next spring. The hero in the first book is a Special Forces soldier and the hero in the second book is a wolf shifter. Both are hot, hunky alphas through and through, but when it comes to their heroines, they couldn’t be more sensitive, sweet and caring.

      *hugs*
      Paige

    • My hubby actually suggested it! I was like, you’re kidding, right? What woman in her right mind would fall in love with a dead guy? No way could that possibly work. I mean, how could it? Zombies are downright unattractive, not to mention pretty damn scary. But my hubby wasn’t kidding. In fact, he already started working up ideas for the story. He told me that the hero didn’t have to be a zombie all the time. I wanted to be open minded, but a zombie? My hubby told me that I could have the hunky hero get cursed by an evil Voodoo priestess, so he’d only turn into a zombie sometimes. And when he did go zombie, he didn’t have to be like the kind in the movies. Well, he still had to look like one, you know all dead and stuff, but he didn’t have to be a mindless creature or attack humans or eat anything gross. So, brains were completely out, thanks goodness!

By that point, my hubby had pretty much sold me on the idea. So I ran with it and ended up with a full-length novel that I think is one of the best I’ve written yet. I like to think of the hero of DEAD SEXY as Jensen Ackles or Jared Padelecki. He’s dead some of the time, but he’s still sexy!

      *hugs*

  2. Wow I love how your hubby helped you come up with this book. Is this the first time he has done that or has he contributed on something else you have written?

    • Thank you so much! We actually work pretty closely together on all the books. He’s my sounding board and idea man when I get into a snag, as well as my critique partner and go-to-guy for the hero’s point of view! He’s also good at keeping me organized with outlining books!

      *hugs*
      Paige

  3. Congratulations on the book Paige I hope you have wonderful amounts of success with Dead Sexy’s release
    Hugs Tracie

  4. What are you pet peeves when it comes to your writing? Do you need complete silence? Do you write while listening to music or have the tv on for background noise? Do you have a ritual you follow before, during, or when you are finished writing a book?

Your books all sound like excellent reads. I am glad I found you!

    • Thank you so much, Kimberly! I’m glad you found me, too!

When I’m writing at home, I like to curl up on the couch with my laptop and have the TV on (tuned to QVC!) with the sound off. That way I can look up every so often and see what they’re showing, and if it looks interesting I turn on the sound and see what they’re saying. Now, if I’m writing somewhere else, I love listening to my iPod. I jut said to hubby that since I like listening to my iPod (I have everything from AC/DC to Lady Gaga on there!) I should listen to my playlist on my iPad when I’m writing at home!

As for rituals, I don’t know that I have any. Although, I do like to have a piece of Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate when I write. Oh, and to celebrate a sale, we go to our favorite restaurant, PF Changs!. Actually, we go to PF Changs before, during and after writing a story! We come up with our best ideas there!

      *hugs*
      Paige

    • Hey Veronica! Thanks for signing up for the party!

Well, my hubby and I love zombie movies. But if you’ve ever seen a zombie movie (or even you haven’t), you know the creatures aren’t the heroes of the film (except in Warm Bodies, of course). I mean, how can they be, right? They’re downright unattractive, not to mention scary. Which is why you can imagine my surprise when my hubby suggested I write a romance about a zombie hero. I was like, you’re kidding, right? What woman in her right mind would fall in love with a dead guy? No way could that work.

“The hero doesn’t have to be a zombie all the time,” he told me. “Think outside the box here.”

Okay. I can be open minded.

In hubby’s out-of-the-box world, the hunky hero got cursed by an evil Voodoo priestess and only turns into a zombie sometimes. “And when he does go zombie, he doesn’t have to be like the kind in the movies,” my hubby added. “Well, he has to look like one, you know all dead and stuff, but he doesn’t have to be a mindless creature or attack humans or eat anything gross.”

So, brains are completely out, thanks goodness!

“Think Jensen Ackles or Jared Padalecki.”

(Yes, my hubby knows I’ve got a thing for the Supernatural hunks!)

So, I ran with the idea and ended up with a full-length novel I think is one of the best I’ve written yet. It finaled in the EPIC Awards and got glowing reviews, including the Gold Star Award from JERR. I was thrilled and hubby walked around for a week with an “I-told-you-so” look on his face. LOL!

      See you at the party!

      *hugs*
      Paige

    • I always put a little something of me in every heroine and a little something of my hubby in every hero. It could be something simple as what he or she likes to eat (like the heroines in the first book in this new paranormal series I’m working on loves pita chips, which I recently discovered!) or it can be something as complicated as their deepest thoughts. Whatever it is, it’s always in there!

      See you at the party!

      *hugs*

    • Thank you so much, Sheryl! Yes, I absolutely have a favorite author who is a must-buy and that’s Suzanne Brockmann. She was very influential in my writing in my NY military/paranormal shifter series that’s coming out with Sourcebooks in May 2014 called X-Ops!

      See you at the party!

      *hugs*
      Paige

  5. Now this may sound strange but has this book been in the works for awhile? I remember reading about a zombie story and I could have sworn you were the author. But it feels like that was awhile ago. Sorry for the strange question but I want to make sure I’m not going too crazy.

    • Hey JoAnna! No, you’re not going crazy! An older version of this books came out several years ago, and I’ve since gotten my rights back to that books and revised it some.

      See you at the party!

      *hugs*
      Paige

    • I work with so many talented cover artists, but I have to say that my favorite cover to date is definitely DEAD SEXY! Can’t go wrong with Jimmy Thomas on the cover!

      See you at the party!

      *hugs*
      Paige

    • One of my absolutely favorite authors is Suzanne Brockmann! I haven’t met her yet, but if and when I do get the chance, I know I’m going to be a total fangirl! LOL!

      See you at the party!

      *hugs*
      Paige

    • Got so excited about Suzanne Brockmann, I forgot to answer your other question! My favorite genres are paranormal, action/adventure and suspense – all romance, of course!

      *hugs*
      Paige

  6. I’m curious. How’d you come up with the idea of using a Voodoo priestess to curse Drake into being a zombie? It’s an interesting way of being “zombified”, I guess you could say, since a typical turn consists of being bitten. The idea of being cursed is interesting and makes me wonder what Drake did to receive the curse in the first place.

    • Thanks for the question, Miriam!

Well, for one thing, while I’m a huge Walking Dead fan, I think apocalyptic zombie are way overdone. For another, I’ve always been fascinated by the Voodoo zombie. Maybe because they’re less gory. Or maybe because I saw the James Bonds movie where Voodoo and zombies played a huge role at a very impressionable age! After some research, I decided to make Drake an herbal zombie and have the evil priestess curse him with zombie powder. Fortunately, there’s a good Voodoo priestess in the book to help Drake out!

      See you at the party!

      *hugs*
      Paige
